Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, seems to be in the mood to defeat the Mayor of Kathmandu, Balendra Shah, with his political tactics. This is not said by me; this is the statement of Balen as well as the political analysts of Nepal. And the incidents that have occurred between them in the last two weeks show the same.
Let’s go over in brief what is happening between Prachanda and Balen and how Prachanda’s intention is not to support Balen Shah’s work. I will try to explore how the Prime Minister is trying to show favoritism to his daughter, Mayor Renu Dahal, whereas he is trying to ignore Mayor Balen Shah this month.
PM Prachanda Fulfills Renu Dahal’s Demand
PM Prachanda has become the Prime Minister of Nepal for the third time, and he has been in this position for the last three months plus. But within these three months, he hasn’t been able to form his cabinet completely. He has shuffled his cabinet time and again within the last three months. When PM Prachanda has not been able to complete his cabinet and function the government properly, he has secretly fulfilled his daughter Mayor Renu Dahal’s demand.
Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium’s work has been completely stopped for a year. This stadium was initiated by Dhurmus Suntali, but when the debt for the construction reached 18 crore, the stadium construction work was stopped by Dhurmus Suntali. They asked the Bharatpur Metropolitan to take over the further work of the stadium and pay back the debt as well. But Bharatpur Metropolitan was unable to take the risk earlier.

As soon as Prachanda became Prime Minister, Renu Dahal demanded that the government take the decision to build the stadium and take over from the Dhurmus Suntali Foundation. And Prachanda’s cabinet made the decision to build the stadium, but the details of the decision were not revealed by the cabinet. And still, Prachanda’s government has not properly mentioned paying the debt to take over the further work of the stadium.
But according to the report that came out in Nepalkhabar media, the government has declared to pay Rs. 12 crore to the Dhurmus Suntali Foundation to pay the debt and take over the further construction of the stadium. Prachanda’s cabinet has made the decision to pay 12 crore and start the work of construction of the stadium as soon as possible. Mayor Renu Dahal has also verified this decision. However, the government has not made this decision public through its authorized channels.
Why did Prachanda’s cabinet make this decision? The main motive behind this decision is to add a plus to Mayor Renu Dahal’s tenure. Renu Dahal’s tenure will get mileage if the stadium is built within the next five years. And Prachanda wants to make her daughter Renu Dahal’s further political career safe, for which he made this decision.
Although Prachanda made this decision for the sake of his daughter, this decision will give Nepal an international stadium, which is a positive part of Prachanda’s decision. But let’s see Prachanda’s decision on another mayor’s demand and how he is treating the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan.

Prachanda wants Balen Shah to be a failure !
PM Prachanda is not in the mood to talk with Kathmandu Metropolitan Mayor Balendra Shah, as can be seen from the incident that took place last week. When Balen Shah stopped the garbage management of Singhdurbar and the Prime Minister’s Residence, he asked the government to fulfill his demand or have a table talk about the demands. But Prachanda tried to pressurize Balen to step backward, but Balen didn’t.
When Balen didn’t step back until he didn’t have a table talk with the Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs, Prachanda sought support from the Court for garbage management. And the Supreme Court orders Mayor Balen Shah to resume the garbage management of Singhdurbar. The decision of the court has made Prachanda the winner and made Mayor Shah move backward at the moment, but this is a political tactic to make Balen falter. And this act of Prachanda not supporting the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan will have an adverse effect on Kathmandu’s development to some extent.
Balen Shah fed up with the federal government
Mayor Balen Shah wanted support from the federal government to make the Kathmandu metropolis better. He sought support for removing squatters from the banks of the Bagmati River. He also sought support for the garbage management of the Kathmandu metropolis, but he didn’t get any of it. So he has been fed up with the federal government for not being cooperative with the local government. And hence he took the decision to not collect garbage from Singhdurbar until the federal government didn’t listen to his demands.

But Prachanda didn’t show any interest; rather, he sought help from Court to make Balen go back from his step. PM Prachanda has been criticized on social media for his dual nature. One mayor, being his daughter, became favorable, and another, Shah, who is a challenge for his political party, became unsupportive.
Mayor Balendra Shah was planning to complete the garbage management issue in Kathmandu metropolis within a year of his tenure, but due to a lack of support from the federal government, he couldn’t succeed. According to the source from the Kathmandu metropolitan office, Balen Shah is fed up with the federal government and senior political leaders’ political tactics of creating barriers to his work.
