Pathibhara temple is situated at Taplejung district. It is one of the most worshipped temple of Nepal where everyday thousands of devotee reach to worship goddess Pathibhara. Except rainy seasons, throughout the year devotee travels to Pathibhara temple to worship goddess Pathibhara. Taplejung is around 580 km far from Kathmandu and from Taplejung it will take around 6 hours to reach Pathibhara temple.
I have been visiting Taplejung every year to worship goddess Pathibhara since last eight years. And I am very familiar with the roads and tour guide to provide the devotee about how you can reach to the temple very easily at low cost and what things you should keep in mind will be explained in this post. I will give my best to provide low cost tour guide to reach Pathibhara temple.
Tour Days: If you are travelling to Pathibhara from Kathmandu then you have to allocate atleast five days. This is for express tour as you will be traveling throughout these days. But if you want to visit other places like Illam which comes in the way, than you can allocate seven days time which will be enough and won’t be hectic.
Day 1 : You need to move from Kathmandu early morning. I usually starts my journey at around 4.30 am to 5 am from Kathmandu. And if you are traveling by Hiace (public vehicle to Birtamod) then you need to reach to bus station at around 4 am.
If we start our travel from morning 5 am then we will reach to Birtamod at evening. If you are in public vehicle then you have to stay that day at a hotel at Birtamod. And if you are in private vehicle then you can reach to Harkatte which is a small hill station. You have to stay at hotel.
Day 2 : On second day, you have to start your day early morning. If you are traveling on public vehicle then from Birtamod you will get bus for Taplejung at early morning. At around 6 am you will get bus at bus park for Taplejung. And from Harkatte also you have to start your trip at around 6 am. Our target will be to reach Taplejung’s Phungling. At evening around 5 to 6 pm we will reach Phungling bus park.
If you reach till 7 pm then you will find vehicle from Phungling to Kaflepati. This ride will charge you NRs. 300 and this road is quite scary too as the road are totally off road. But due to blessings of Pathibhara goddess, you will reach safely to Kaflepati within one and half hour. And you can stay at Kaflepati.
Day 3 : This is a special day as you will be worshipping goddess Pathibhara today. You can start your journey from 4 am early morning. Devotees walks from 2 am also. You have to walk from this place to Pathibhara temple. It will take around 4 to 5 hours walking upwards hill to reach the temple. Temple is situated at top of the hill. You have to walk for around 4 to 5 hours to reach the temple.
You will find places to take rest. You will walk slowly as you have to climb hill and reach the top. You will find some difficulties too due to altitude. You need to carry foods from Kaflepati or Mathlofedi. You will reach temple at around 10 am. It will take one to two hours to worship goddess Pathibhara. You can also enjoy the view from top of the hill. And then you will go back to Phungling. You will reach at evening. You will stay at Phunling and wait for next day.
Day 4 : You will get bus at bus park for Birtamod at 6 am to 8 am early morning. You can take the bus for Birtamod. You will reach Birtamod at around 5 pm. You need to stay at hotel.
Day 5 : Early morning at around 4 am you will find hiace for Kathmandu at Birtamod bus park. You will start your journey early morning. You will reach Kathmandu at around 6 pm.

Cost breakdown:
For Hiace from Kathmandu to Birtamod: NRs. 1800
For Hotel at Birtamod : NRs. 1000 per night (You will stay two days so it will be NRs. 2000)
For bus fare from Birtamod to Phungling : NRs. 1000
For fare from Phungling to Kaflepati: NRs. 300
Hotel at Kaflepati : NRs. 300 (one night with food)
For fare from Kaflepati to Phungling : NRs. 300
For hotel at Phunling : NRs. 800
For bus fare from Phungling to Birtamod: NRs. 1000
For bus fare from Birtamod to Kathmandu: NRs. 1800
And for food, you need to pay around 150 to 250 per lunch or dinner. For non-veg maximun 300 rupees. So you can add food for five days as per your need. If you go with budget version then you have to allocate around 12 to 15 thousand. If you have group then hotel cost will be shared which will cost you less.
