2nd World Black Tea Quality Evaluation Competition was held at China where Nepali 16 tea production company had participated. National Tea and Coffee Development Board has approved 16 different tea production company of Nepal to participate on this competition which was held at China. Along with Nepal, various countries had participated on this competition.
16 different tea production companies participated in this competition where Nepal’s company had won Gold Medals as well as Silver medals. According to the report provided by National Tea and Coffee Development Board of Nepal, Nepal had won 6 Gold medals and 4 silver medals. Nepal’s black tea were hugely appreciated by the participants from all over the world.
China Tea Marketing Association has organized this competition which was held at Fuan city. Nepali tea production company participated and evaluated their black tea at the competition. ‘Tinjure Tea Farmer Co-operative Society’ had won Gold medal by presenting Pearl Golden Black Tea at competition. This company also presented Normal Golden Black Tea which won Silver medal. Both of the tea were appreciated by the organizers.
National Tea and Coffee Development Board first tested the black tea from different companies from Nepal. After internal competition and testing, board approved 16 production company for going to China for participating in the contest. After winning Gold medals and Silver medals, winner company has been honored in Nepal too by organizing a public event. These winning companies also shared their experience of achieving success at international competition.
According to the board, these winning company will now get international market exposure as their tea products will get demands from international market. At China, black tea and coffee is very popular and the winner products from Nepal will also be distributed at China and other international market. After winning Gold medals, these companies will have international market exposure.

Nepal’s tea and coffee are one of the most preferred agricultural product at international market. Nepali farmers and company are working hard to take Nepali tea and coffee to international market. There are few companies from Illam who have huge market exposure at international arena. There are few products which are very popular at international market.
National Tea and Coffee Development Board is implementing various tools and techniques to boost Nepali tea products to international market. Board is sending various tea products sample to international market for testing. And Board claims that participating in such competition also helps to open door to international market. These days various nation are demanding Nepali tea and coffee. Black tea from Nepal is one of the most preferred for foreigners.
Nepal’s tea farming has a long history. Tea farming in Nepal started from 1920 B.S. At 2039 B.S. late King Birendra has announced few city of Nepal as a point for tea farming and ordered the Government to boost tea farming at those place. After this decision, tea farming at Illam, Jhapa, Paanchthar, Dhankuta started at rapid way. Government also provided various assistance to farmers for tea farming.
According to the latest report, 17 thousand farmers are involved in tea and coffee farming at Nepal. More than 60 thousands workers are involved in this industry.
