Medical businessman Durga Prasai is a man who always comes on the media for his works. From his political journey to his medical business work, he always comes into frontline media attention. Controversies are always revolving around him, as his working style and his statements always drag him into controversy. These days, Durga Prasai is in the limelight for his two works.
Durga Prasai had left his political party UML by taking permission from Kp Sharma Oli (the chairman of the UML party). He is currently preoccupied with two projects. One is that he is concerned about Nepalis who are facing hard times due to commercial banks that are charging high interest rates on loans. Durga Prasai is organizing a campaign where he is creating pressure on the government and commercial banks to reduce the interest rate on loans. He claims that commercial banks are earning double profits during the COVID pandemic, but small-scale businessmen are having a hard time surviving, so the interest rate on loans should be decreased to support those businessmen. Durga Prasai has been getting huge support from small-scale businessmen from all over the nation.
And another agenda of Durga Prasai is bringing back the monarchy in Nepal. Durga Prasai believes that monarchy is important for the nation in the present scenario as all the major political parties are corrupt and they cannot bring about development in Nepal. Durga Prasai left the UML to carry out the campaign to bring back the monarchy in Nepal. He organized a grand event in Jhapa, where he started his campaign to bring back the monarchy.
Now let’s talk about the role of Durga Prasai in bringing back the monarchy in Nepal. To be clear to our visitors, Durga Prasai has been involved in politics for the past three decades and was always a member of the Communist Party. But all of a sudden, last month, he left the communist party and started advocating for monarchy. Why did he start advocating for monarchy? He claims that only monarchy can bring the nation back on track. But he clarifies that he is not with any political party.

Durga Prasai’s role in bringing back the monarchy is to be discussed properly. Let’s discuss a few points where we will be discussing bringing back the monarchy in Nepal. Durga Prasai felt that the major political parties of Nepal are not capable of bringing the nation on a positive track, so he felt only monarchy is the option left to bring the nation on a positive track. He claims that if a monarchy is not established, Nepal can go deeper into corruption.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RaPraPa) is a major political party whose main objective is to bring back the monarchy in Nepal. But RaPraPa has always limited this agenda to their speeches rather than any action. But when Durga Prasai organized a grand event at Jhapa where he brought former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah and his family on stage, the RaPraPa party’s leaders were worried. Durga Prasai often meets Gyanendra Shah and Paras Shah, which made Rajendra Lingden and Rabindra Mishra more worried as Nepal’s wave for monarchy may get towards Durga Prasai’s campaign.
After Durga Prasai’s attempt to show a craze for monarchy among Nepali citizens, RaPraPa has started visiting Gyanendra Shah and organizing events to interact with Nepalis. RaPraPa also felt that only speech couldn’t fulfill their aspirations, so they met Gyanendra Shah and organized events where Gyanendra Shah could interact directly with the public.
This week, only two programs were held in the eastern part of Nepal, where Gyanendra Shah interacted with the public. This showed the craze of the public towards monarchy. And this credit goes to Durga Prasai, as he attempted to bring Gyanendra Shah to the public and showed the craze of monarchy among the public.
