Kathmandu – The Nepali Congress’ leader and Nepal’s first democratically elected Prime Minister, BP Koirala, is remembered these days on social media when there is talk of the restoration of monarchy in Nepal. Nepali Congress’ youth leaders have been defending themselves by showing an application by BP Koirala, who requested King allow him to go abroad for his treatment. BP Koirala requested that King let him make a passport and go abroad for the treatment.
The application of BP Koirala is going viral on social media, and the youths are using that as proof to defend monarchy. Monarchy is not favorable for the citizens, as BP Koirala was not allowed to go abroad to do his treatment. But the fact is something different which must be known by the youths. Monarchy has it’s own pros and cons but BP Koirala, who was once rejected by King to go abroad for treatment, has praised about the King on an interview.
Let’s have a look at the facts. The application of BP Koirala is true, and at that time he was rejected by the prince. BP Koirala was not allowed to go for treatment at that time, but later King Mahendra himself managed everything for his treatment in the United States. King himself managed the finances from the government budget for BP Koirala’s treatment. And this was accepted by BP Koirala in an interview that was taken in the United States.

BP Koirala mentioned in an interview that he has made a promise to the King that he will return to the nation. When King let BP Koirala go to the United States for treatment, BP Koirala was in prison. In such a scenario, the King allowed him to go abroad for treatment because Koirala was a leader accepted by citizens. King didn’t try to surpass his voice; rather, he let him go abroad for treatment and come back to Nepal.
BP Koirala said, “I know I may be sent to prison again if I return to Nepal, and I have a chance of staying here in the United States, but I won’t do that. King has sent me to the United States for treatment, and I have promised him that I will return. I will go back and manage a good relationship between citizens and monarchies in a democratic way.”

But these days, the Nepali Congress leader has been only spreading one part of that scenario. The misinformation has been spreading to keep monarchy on the black side, but the fact is that BP Koirala was never against monarchy. BP Koirala always wanted monarchy to not be autocratic but rather democratic.
