President Ram Chandra Poudel is currently in India for the treatment. He was taken to New Delhi on Baisakh 6 for treatment after he became unconscious. His treatment is ongoing at the ‘All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS)’. President Poudel’s health condition is getting better, as per the report provided by the President’s Office.
Now let’s talk about the cost of President Poudel’s treatment, as revealed by the Deshsanchar media. According to the report presented by Deshsanchar Media, the cost of a special chartered aircraft is NRs. 65 lakh. This cost includes two-way flights. Two aircraft were chartered on the 6th of Baisakh. On the first aircraft, the president was taken to New Delhi, whereas the second aircraft carried the president’s medical team. Both chartered aircraft’s costs have reached NRs. 65 lakh, which is to be paid from the government’s treasury.
Prachanda Suggested Ram Chandra Poudel Go To India For The Treatment
When President Ram Chandra Poudel became unconscious, he was taken to the Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu. Doctors have identified the chest infection and gastro-intestinal problem of President Poudel. The senior doctors of the hospital assured him of the proper treatment of the president at the teaching hospital, but he was moved towards India in a rush for the treatment by chartering a special flight.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda, has mentioned in a speech that it was his idea to send President Poudel to India for treatment. PM Prachanda, who went to Tanahu for the election campaign of Dr. Govinda Bhattarai from the Nepali Congress, said, “President Poudel was getting better in Nepal, but I gave him advice to go to India for the treatment as it will be fast.”
Prachanda Is Damaging The Nepali Congress’ Credibility
PM Prachanda revealed the idea of the president going to India for treatment during an election campaign for the Nepali Congress. But his statement has made Nepali Congress supporters more disappointed as the president’s treatment costs are added to government expenses. When the senior doctors were assuring about the proper treatment of President Ram Chandra Poudel in Nepal, as well as PM Prachanda himself, they mentioned that President Poudel was getting better, but he suggested going to India for quick treatment. And this decision has increased the expense of the government.
The president’s treatment expenses will reach more than Rs. 1 crore. And when Prachanda gave a speech at Tanahu on the Nepali Congress’ election campaign, that speech damaged the Nepali Congress’ credibility, as President Poudel was popular for his simplicity. But PM Prachanda gave the message that as soon as Poudel became president, he also started using the government’s treasury quickly, like other politicians. And this has damaged the image of Ram Chandra Poudel’s simplicity as well as the Nepali Congress’ credibility.
It seems like PM Prachanda knowingly mentioned this in that speech on Tanahu. Let’s have a look at these facts:
- The election campaign in which PM Prachanda mentioned this was in the area of Ram Chandra Poudel. At Tanahu, Ram Chandra Poudel has a very clean image, and he is appreciated for his simple lifestyle. And PM Prachanda’s statement from Ram Chandra Poudel’s election area has damaged his image.
- The election rally was organized by the Nepali Congress, as the candidate was Dr. Govinda Bhattarai, who is another sincere politician of the Nepali Congress. PM Prachanda took the stage of the Nepali Congress to damage the image of the Nepali Congress leader. He used the perfect place to deliver the message among the Nepali Congress’ supporters.
- And the most important point to be noted is that in this by-election, there is no candidate from PM Prachanda’s political party. If Dr. Govinda Bhattarai wins, only the Nepali Congress will benefit. There is no major profit or loss for PM Prachanda and his political party. So when he didn’t have anything to lose, he indirectly took the stage of the Nepali Congress to damage it and cut off their vote.
Why Is Gagan Thapa Quiet?
The General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa, will be dragged on this issue for two reasons. One is that he is the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, and he is representing the major political party of the ruling party. And the second reason is the major point to be noted, as Gagan Thapa has made a decision about the treatment of senior politicians in Nepal.
When Gagan Thapa was the Health Minister of Nepal, he made the decision not to let political leaders use the government’s treasury for their treatment outside Nepal. Gagan Thapa gets the credit for approving the act, which mentions that the government will not take responsibility for the treatment of political leaders who go outside the nation. The government will treat the Prime Minister, President, and other political leaders in Nepal, but if treatment is not possible in Nepal, then the cabinet should make the decision to go outside the nation for treatment.

After implementing this act, Gagan Thapa has stopped paying for Tulsi Giri’s treatment outside Nepal. But when the President, who was from the Nepali Congress, used more than Rs. 1 crore for treatment in India in a situation where the treatment was possible in Nepal, it damaged the credibility of the Nepali Congress. And on top of that, PM Prachanda has proudly mentioned that he suggested going outside the nation, and President Poudel agreed. Prachanda’s statement has directly impacted the Nepali Congress’ credibility.
Now the question has arisen on social media: why is Gagan Thapa quiet, or did he become speechless due to the greed of the government? It is said that Gagan Thapa is one of the nearest people to Prachanda in the present scenario. Gagan Thapa is not in the mood to comment on Prachanda, which can be reflected in his actions over the last two months. Gagan Thapa has not commented harshly on PM Prachanda’s decision, even though he has been continuously criticized by the media and citizens.
When Gagan Thapa’s decision is not followed by PM Prachanda, and he is proud of that, Thapa has not spoken about it. He is trying to keep himself away from giving an answer to the media these days, as he is not in the mood to criticize PM Prachanda and his government at this stage. But Gagan Thapa’s silence has damaged the Nepali Congress’ credibility, which will be reflected in the coming days.
